The Liberty Ride is a horseback and wagon ride from Oakland Heights Farm to Montpelier and back, as part of Montpelier’s Constitution Day Celebrations on Sept. 22, 2012. The Ride is named after James Madison’s beloved horse, Liberty, and is brought to you by Montpelier, the VA Horse Industry Board, and Orange County Parks & Recreation, with additional support from the Virginia Horse Council. The Ride (approximately 11 miles over pastures, trails, old roads, and gravel) will be the inaugural fundraiser for the Orange County Parks & Recreation Foundation. Saddle up and join us for a ride through historic and scenic Orange County! There will be multiple food vendors at Montpelier featuring a variety of options, with lunch included, and the price includes $5 towards reentrance to Montpelier following the event. Those without a horse or wagon may register as a passenger, and spots on wagons will be given on a first come, first served basis, subject to wagon availability. Advance registration is required.
Registration forms are available through Orange County Parks & Recreation at the Sedwick Building, 146 Madison Road, Suite 205, Orange, VA 22960, and on the Parks & Recreation website: http://orangecountyva.gov/parks_and_rec/index.asp
